# Quickstart

> From a new account to your first API call in five minutes.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Create an account">
    Sign up at [dashboard.storiza.store](https://dashboard.storiza.store) and verify your email address.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create an API key">
    In the dashboard, open **API & Integrations** and choose **Create key**. Give it a name, tick the permissions it needs — **Read Account** and **Read VPS** are enough for this guide — and create it.

    Copy the key straight away. It starts with `stz_` and is shown **only once**; Storiza keeps only a fingerprint of it. [More about keys](/authentication).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Keep the key out of your code">
    Put it in an environment variable rather than pasting it into scripts:

    ```bash theme={null}
    export STORIZA_API_KEY="stz_..."
    ```
  </Step>

  <Step title="Make your first request">
    Ask who you are:

    <CodeGroup>
      ```bash curl theme={null}
      curl https://api.storiza.store/profile/information \
        -H "Authorization: Bearer $STORIZA_API_KEY"
      ```

      ```javascript JavaScript theme={null}
      const response = await fetch("https://api.storiza.store/profile/information", {
        headers: { Authorization: `Bearer ${process.env.STORIZA_API_KEY}` },
      });
      const { data } = await response.json();
      console.log(data.username, data.balance);
      ```

      ```python Python theme={null}
      import os, requests
      response = requests.get(
          "https://api.storiza.store/profile/information",
          headers={"Authorization": f"Bearer {os.environ['STORIZA_API_KEY']}"},
      )
      print(response.json()["data"])
      ```
    </CodeGroup>

    Every answer is wrapped the same way:

    ```json theme={null}
    {
      "success": true,
      "message": "Profile information retrieved successfully",
      "data": { "username": "you", "email": "you@example.com", "balance": "25.00" }
    }
    ```
  </Step>

  <Step title="List your servers">
    ```bash theme={null}
    curl "https://api.storiza.store/vps/?_limit=10" \
      -H "Authorization: Bearer $STORIZA_API_KEY"
    ```

    `data` is an array of your servers and `pagination` says how many there are in total. See [Pagination and filtering](/concepts/pagination-and-filtering).
  </Step>
</Steps>
